Why I started this
I kept noticing that my listening had shrunk to whatever the streaming algorithms had decided I'd like that week. Decades of records I'd love were sitting right there, in the same library, completely invisible to me.
So I started previously.fm as a small daily ritual. Every morning the site asks one question: what came out on this date, in some other year? Then I let you swipe back through the decades and listen.
How it works
Behind the scenes I pull release data from MusicBrainz and Wikidata, cross-check it against Spotify and Deezer so what you see is actually playable, grab a 30-second preview from Apple Music / iTunes, and rank the day's releases by a composite popularity score so the most resonant record leads.
