- The album was recorded at his personal studio, Emerald Sound, in Nashville, Tennessee. It was Jackson's first album in three years, following Precious Memories Together for Christmas. It reached number 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and number 29 on the Billboard 200.
- The album's title track, "Angels & Alcohol," was released as the lead single. It became Jackson's first single in over a decade to not reach the Top 40 on the country charts.
- Despite the lead single's performance, the album itself was well-received by critics and fans, earning Jackson a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album.
