Flush the Fashion marked a deliberate shift away from Alice Cooper's established arena rock sound towards a leaner, new wave-inflected hard rock. It featured a more contemporary production and songwriting style for 1980.

Alice Cooper is the stage persona of singer-songwriter Vincent Furnier, a veteran of the hard rock and shock rock scenes since the late 1960s. Flush the Fashion found him experimenting with a lighter, more new wave-influenced sound after a string of commercially successful arena rock albums.
