The group’s tenth album, Surtur Rising, delivered a more polished, anthemic sound, leaning into the melodic aspects of their established death metal formula.
- Surtur Rising was recorded at once-legendary, now-closed Sunflower Recording Studios in Riddarhyttan, Sweden with producer Jens Bogren. It was the first Amon Amarth album to be produced by Jens Bogren. It was also the first album by the band to feature artwork by Tom Thiel.
- The album debuted at number 5 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and number 18 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart. It reached number 17 on the German albums chart. The album’s release was supported by the single and music video for "Destroyer of the Universe."
- The album’s title refers to the fire giant of Norse mythology, Surtur, who is destined to burn the world. The album’s themes focus on Ragnarök, the Norse apocalypse.
Amon Amarth is a Swedish melodic death metal band formed in Tumba in 1992. They are best known for their lyrical themes inspired by Norse mythology and Viking history. In 2011, they were a well-established act in the death metal scene, poised to break into larger European festivals following this album.
