
This 2016 album saw Callea working with a new label and producer, moving into a more dance-oriented sound. The lead single "Shadow" was a commercial disappointment, failing to chart.
- "Backbone" was released on 16 September 2016 via Sony Music Entertainment. The album reached number 12 on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart. It was Callea's first studio album in five years, following "Sinner or Saint" from 2011.
- The album was produced by Louis Schoorl, who had previously worked with artists such as 5 Seconds of Summer and The Veronicas. Music videos were filmed for the tracks "Shadow" and "Don't You Worry."
- Callea co-wrote all eleven tracks on the album. He stated that he wanted "Backbone" to be more reflective of his live performances, which often feature dance and upbeat songs.
Anthony Callea is an Australian pop singer, best known for his powerful vocals and his 2004 debut single "The Prayer." He rose to fame on the second season of Australian Idol.
