The band's first new material in over a decade, "Go Out" was released as a standalone single in February 2015. It preceded their eighth studio album, The Magic Whip, by two months.
- The single was released on Parlophone UK. It was produced by the band and Stephen Street, who had previously worked with Blur on Modern Life Is Rubbish, Parklife, and The Great Escape. The song was first performed live by the band in Tokyo in 2013 during a period when they were working on new material that would eventually become The Magic Whip.
- "Go Out" was given its first play on 19 February 2015 by DJ Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 Music. The single was released in multiple formats, including digital download and a limited edition 7-inch vinyl single. It reached number 121 on the UK Singles Chart.
- The music video for "Go Out" features the band members performing the song in a Hong Kong noodle bar, a nod to the setting of their next album. The single was widely seen as a surprise return for the band, generating significant anticipation for their reunion album.
