The album features a notable lineup of collaborators, including members of the then-current King Crimson and future members of Genesis.
- "One of a Kind" was recorded at Trident Studios in London, engineered by Bob Kraushaar. The album features guest spots from Robert Fripp and John Wetton, both of whom Bruford had recently worked with in the reformed King Crimson. Wayne Shorter also plays on the track "Back in the U.S.S.R."
- The album reached number 13 on the UK Jazz & Blues Albums Chart. The title track was released as a single, with "Back in the U.S.S.R." as its B-side.
- Bruford would go on to form his own band, Earthworks, in 1986, exploring a more electronic and improvisational sound.
