The band's third album, "'Ot 'n' Sweaty," was released in 1972 and featured a more refined, soulful sound than their previous efforts. The album included guest appearances from some notable musicians.
- 'Ot 'n' Sweaty' was recorded live at the Record Plant in New York City with no overdubs. The album reached number 143 on the Billboard 200 chart. It featured guest musicians from the Allman Brothers Band and the Grateful Dead.
- The album features a cover of the Willie Dixon song "Let Me Swim". The original pressing of the album came in a gatefold sleeve. Carnegie Hall hosted the album's release party.
- The album was produced by Bill Szymczyk, who would go on to produce albums for the Eagles and the Doobie Brothers. It was released during a period of personnel changes for the band. The album was not as commercially successful as previous Cactus albums.
