The final studio album of Captain Beefheart's recording career, "Ice Cream for Crow" arrived as a swan song of challenging, idiosyncratic rock. It saw Vliet returning to a more raw, unvarnished sound after the more polished "Doc at the Radar Station."

Captain Beefheart, born Don Van Vliet, was a highly idiosyncratic American musician, painter, and poet known for his experimental rock music that blended blues, jazz, and psychedelia. He retired from music in 1982 to focus on painting.
