Recorded with a reconstituted lineup, "Blind Dog at St. Dunstans" showcases Caravan in a more straightforward, less overtly psychedelic mode than some of their earlier work. The album features a notable guest appearance by Jimmy Hastings on woodwinds.
- The album was recorded at the Manor Studios in Oxfordshire. It was the only Caravan album to feature bassist/vocalist John G. Perry. The album reached number 71 on the UK Albums Chart.
- John G. Perry had previously played with Magna Carta and was a member of Atomic Rooster. He joined Caravan to replace original bassist Dave Sinclair.
- The album's sessions were reportedly fraught with tension due to creative differences and the band's financial difficulties at the time. This would be the last album released by Caravan on the Decca Records label.
Caravan is a seminal Canterbury scene psychedelic rock band formed in 1968. In 1976, they were navigating a period of shifting lineups and musical exploration.
