A Verlaine Songbook

classicalopera

Sampson brings a crystalline tone and keen dramatic intelligence to a cycle of songs setting the Symbolist poet Paul Verlaine, a project few other singers would even consider. The cycle draws on music from the 1900s to the 2010s.

British soprano Carolyn Sampson is an internationally acclaimed performer of Baroque and contemporary music. At the time of this recording, she was a leading interpreter of English song, having recently released a critically lauded collection of Britten and Tippett songs.
