The Unheavenly Creatures saw Coheed and Cambria return to their signature blend of progressive rock and heavy metal, complete with ambitious concept storytelling. It was their first album in six years to feature drummer Josh Eppard and bassist Zach Cooper.
- The album's release was preceded by the singles "The Dark Sentencer," "Unheavenly Creatures," and "The Pavilion (A Long Way Away)."
- The Unheavenly Creatures was the band's first double album since 2007's Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness.

Coheed and Cambria is a progressive rock band from Nyack, New York, known for their complex musical arrangements and sci-fi lyrical concepts. The Unheavenly Creatures marked a return to Roadrunner Records and a return to a double-album format after a period of experimentation.
