Brilliant Trees, Sylvian's second solo album, arrived after the dissolution of Japan and found him exploring a more experimental sound.
- The album was recorded in 1983 and early 1984 at Hansa Tonstudio in Berlin and Olympic Studios in London. It was produced by Sylvian and Steve Nye.
- Upon release, "Brilliant Trees" reached number 4 on the UK Albums Chart. It was preceded by the single "Red Guitar," which charted at number 18.
- The album features contributions from Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri, Phil Palmer, Danny Cummings, and Jon Hassell. It was the first release on Sylvian's own Samadhi label, distributed by Virgin Records.
David Sylvian is the solo nom de plume of London-born singer, songwriter, and producer David Batt. He is best known as the frontman of the new wave band Japan.
