
Recorded in Osaka and Tokyo in August 1972, this album captures the Mark II lineup at the height of their powers, midway through a legendary tour. Its release in 1993, however, was controversial, arriving years after the tour and featuring a different lineup.

- The album was originally released in the US in 1973 as "Made in Japan," reaching number 5 on the Billboard 200 chart.
- The 1993 EMI Records release on CD and cassette predates the band's next studio album, "The Battle Rages On..." by over a year.
Deep Purple is a British hard rock band formed in London in 1968. They are regarded as pioneers of heavy metal and hard rock for their role in the development of hard rock and heavy metal music. The 1993 release of "Live in Japan" found the band midway through the "The Battle Rages On..." tour, which would be their last with guitarist Ritchie Blackmore.
