The double album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs is a sprawling, ambitious work. It is famous for its dual guitar assault and Clapton's impassioned, often anguished, lyrics.
- The album was recorded in the fall of 1970 at Miami's Criteria Studios with producer Tom Dowd. Duane Allman plays lead guitar on eight of the album's fourteen tracks.
- Despite its later acclaim, the album was not a commercial success upon its release, failing to chart in the United States or the United Kingdom. It was eventually certified platinum in 1974.
- The album's title track, "Layla," was edited for single release in 1972, reaching number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. A live version from the album Unplugged would reach number 12 in 1992.
Derek and the Dominos was a project fronted by Eric Clapton, organized in 1970 after the breakup of Blind Faith. The band featured Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle, and Jim Gordon.
