Neptune’s Lair

technoelectronichouse

The second of two albums released on Tresor in 1999, Neptune's Lair further explored the aquatic mythology Drexciya had established, with a raw, stripped-down sound that emphasized rhythm and atmosphere.

Drexciya was a Detroit-based electronic music duo whose mythos centered on a fictional underwater society populated by the descendants of pregnant African women who were thrown overboard during the Middle Passage. Their music, a blend of electro, techno, and acid house, was characterized by its aquatic themes and complex, driving rhythms. In 1999, Drexciya was deep into their most prolific period, having already released several seminal EPs and albums that had cemented their reputation within the global techno scene.
