"Nature Planned It" was a standalone single released by Four Tops in 1972, finding the group moving away from the Holland-Dozier sound towards a more contemporary soul and funk feel. The single did not appear on any album at the time of its release.
- "Nature Planned It" was produced by Frank Wilson, who also worked on Eddie Kendricks' "Keep on Truckin'". The single reached number 53 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 9 on the Hot Selling Soul Singles chart. It was later included on the 1974 compilation album 'Meeting of the Minds'.
- The B-side, "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)," was a re-recorded version of their 1966 hit single. This version was recorded during the same sessions as "Nature Planned It."
- The group's previous single, "One Chain Don't Make No Prison," had reached number 117 on the Billboard charts. This release marked a slight improvement in chart performance.
The Four Tops were a vocal quartet from Detroit, Michigan, who performed soul music with Motown Records. They were one of the label's most successful acts, known for their string of hit singles in the 1960s.
