A transitional album that saw Godflesh incorporate a more electronic and atmospheric sound, moving away from their signature industrial metal sound.

Godflesh is the pioneering industrial metal band formed in Birmingham, England, in 1988 by Justin Broadrick and G.C. Green. They are renowned for their brutally heavy, minimalist sound, characterized by drum machine beats, downtuned guitars, and bleak, oppressive atmospheres. Hymns was released late in their initial run, a period marked by shifting sonic textures and a move towards more electronic and atmospheric elements.
