The soundtrack to Peter Jackson's 2012 film "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" marked Shore's return to Middle-earth. This album accompanied the first installment of the prequel trilogy, adapting J.R.R. Tolkien's 1937 novel.

• The soundtrack features a large orchestra, with performances by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the London Voices choir.
