Smoke + Mirrors was the follow-up to Imagine Dragons' massively successful debut album, Night Visions. This album experimented with a more varied sonic palette, incorporating elements of electronica and rock.
- The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 76,000 copies in its first week. It was recorded in the band's home studio and produced by the band members themselves, along with Alexander Grant and Josh Mosser. The album spawned the singles "I Bet My Life" and "Shots."
- Smoke + Mirrors was released in February 2015, a little over two years after their debut album, Night Visions. The band spent much of 2013 and 2014 touring in support of Night Visions.
- The album was noted for its darker and more introspective lyrical themes compared to their previous work. It reached number one in the US, Canada, and the UK.
