Jefferson Airplane's debut, Jefferson Airplane Takes Off, presented a more folk-inflected version of the band than would later be heard. The album was recorded and released in 1966, prior to the band's breakthrough performance at the Monterey Pop Festival.
- The album was recorded at RCA Victor Studios in Hollywood, California. It was produced by Tommy Oliver. It reached number 129 on the Billboard 200 chart.
- The original 10-song album was released on mono and stereo LPs. It was reissued in 1974 by RCA Records.
- The album features Grace Slick's predecessor, Signe Toly Anderson, on vocals. Anderson departed the band shortly after the album's release.
Jefferson Airplane was a San Francisco band who became one of the most popular psychedelic rock groups of the 1960s. The band formed in 1965 and released their debut album, Jefferson Airplane Takes Off, less than a year later.
