Following her 2006 divorce and a period of public scrutiny, Simpson retreated to Nashville to record her first true country album. The result was "Do You Know," a collection of earnest, if sometimes derivative, country-pop songs.
- The album debuted at number one on the Top Country Albums chart and number twenty-eight on the Billboard 200. Lead single "Come On Over" reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. It was produced by Scott Hendricks and Dann Huff.
- Prior to this album, Simpson had expressed a desire to move into country music, but label executives were hesitant. Her father, Joe Simpson, then took over as her manager and pushed for the genre shift.
- Despite the album's country chart success, Simpson returned to pop music for her subsequent releases. This album was her only release on the Nashville-based label Epic Records.
Jessica Simpson is a pop singer-songwriter who achieved mainstream success in the late 1990s and early 2000s. "Do You Know" marked her full transition into the country music genre after earlier forays with the single "Come On Over".
