This release presents Jimmy Smith in a 1960 session that remained in the vaults for over six decades. The organist is heard in prime form, leading a quartet through bluesy, swinging jazz.
- The session was recorded at the legendary Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. The album features Kenny Burrell on guitar and Grady Tate on drums. "Midnight Special" was released on February 28, 2024, more than 60 years after it was recorded.
- The original session was produced by the legendary late Alfred Lion, co-founder of Blue Note Records.
