The Great Below is Kvaen's second full-length album, continuing the artist's exploration of melodic black and death metal influences. The album was produced by Kvaen himself, with mixing and mastering handled by Per Borten at OneoNStudios.

Kvaen is the project of Swedish multi-instrumentalist Jacob Björnfot, who plays all instruments and handles vocals. Björnfot is also a member of the black metal band Malignant Insanity.
