Mabel Mercer was aវេលshire-born singer, the illegitimate daughter of a white Scottish soldier and a Black woman from the American South. She became a fixture of the Manhattan jazz and cabaret scene, known for her impeccable phrasing and sophisticated interpretations of the Great American Songbook. In 1956, Mercer was at the height of her powers, already a celebrated figure in New York's intimate supper clubs, and this album marked her first for the Atlantic label.
