The Holy Bible eschewed the stadium-sized anthems of its predecessor, Generation Terrorists, in favour of a claustrophobic, intense, and intellectually bruising exploration of societal ills, personal demons, and the band's own increasingly fractured psyche.
- The album was recorded at Chipping Norton Recording Studios and Master Rock Studios between 1993 and 1994. It was produced by the band and Paul Cobbold.
- The Holy Bible debuted at number 6 on the UK Albums Chart. It has since been certified platinum by the BPI.
- Lyrical themes on the album include anorexia, suicide, child abuse, mental illness, and fascism. The band's guitarist, Richey Edwards, famously cut himself with a razor blade live on BBC Two’s Top of the Pops in 1992.
