Mavis Staples is a singular gospel performer and civil rights activist from Chicago. She emerged in the late 1950s as the lead singer of her family's band, the Staple Singers. In 2019, she released "Live in London," a document of a performance from later in her career. She was just coming off a string of critically acclaimed albums on Anti-: "If All Goes Wrong," "One True Vine," and "Livin' on Love."
