Nesmith’s first RCA album, Tantamount to Treason Vol. 1, was a country-rock affair that he largely produced himself, showcasing his distinctive songwriting and guitar work. This LP’s follow-up, And Good Times! (1974), was a collaboration with the electric country band Red Rhodes.

- In 1972, RCA Records established its own Los Angeles-based mastering facility, RCA Music Center, where this album was mastered.
- Tantamount to Treason Vol. 1 has been reissued multiple times on CD, including in 1993 and 2007, featuring bonus tracks.
Michael Nesmith is a songwriter and musician, famously a charter member of The Monkees, known for pioneering country rock. In 1972, he was two years removed from The Monkees and establishing his solo career with his own label, which would later become the legendary independent label, Pacific Arts Records.
