Animositisomina marked a return to a more direct, aggressive sound for Ministry after a period of electronic experimentation. It successfully bridged the gap between their earlier industrial work and their later, heavier material.

Ministry is an American industrial metal band founded by Al Jourgensen in Chicago in 1981. They are considered pioneers of the industrial metal genre, known for their heavy electronic sound and confrontational lyrics. In 2003, Ministry stood at a point of transition, following their experimental period of the late 1990s and signaling a return to a more aggressive, guitar-driven sound.
