This 1966 debut album introduced Neil Diamond's distinctive voice and songwriting to the public. It features many of his early hits, establishing his signature blend of folk and pop.
- The album was produced by Jeff Barry. It reached number 91 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album was released on Bang Records before Diamond moved to MCA Records.
- The album includes the singles "Solitary Man" and "I'm a Believer", though the latter was a bigger hit for The Monkees. It was recorded in A&R Studios in New York City. The album was later reissued on MCA Records' budget label in 1970.
- Neil Diamond wrote all the songs on the album himself. He had previously been a staff songwriter for Coral Records. This album marked his transition from songwriter to recording artist.
