The New Riders of the Purple Sage’s 1972 LP, Gypsy Cowboy, finds the band embracing a more country-folk sound, moving away from their earlier psychedelic leanings. This album features their highest-charting single, "Panama Limited."

The New Riders of the Purple Sage formed in 1969, coalescing around the Grateful Dead’s orbit. At this time, they were exploring a country-inflected sound that would become their hallmark.
