Rod Stewart’s first album of The Great American Songbook showcases his distinctive voice interpreting jazz standards. It was his first release for J Records.
- The album reached number 6 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the UK Albums Chart. It was later certified Platinum by the RIAA. It was Stewart’s first album in four years.
- It sold over 3 million copies in the United States. The album also spawned the hit single "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing".
- Rod Stewart would go on to release four more volumes in The Great American Songbook series. He also won a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for "Stardust…The Great American Songbook, Vol. II".
