Animal Magnetism, their fifth studio album, saw the band refining the hard rock sound that would bring them international success. It followed their breakthrough album Lovedrive.
- Animal Magnetism was the first Scorpions album to be released on BMG Rights Management. The album was produced by Dieter Dierks, who had worked with the band on their previous three albums. Animal Magnetism reached number 75 on the Billboard 200 chart in the US.
- The album's original cover art, which depicted a man and a woman in a sexual embrace, was considered too controversial by some and was later replaced with a censored version. The song "The Zoo" became a live staple for the band and is considered one of their signature songs. The album was re-recorded in 1988 and released as a bonus track on the CD version.
