"Hot Fun in the Summertime" was a one-off single released between Sly and the Family Stone's landmark albums Stand! and the more experimental Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin). The song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the R&B chart, becoming one of their most enduring hits.
- Despite its August release and summery theme, "Hot Fun in the Summertime" was primarily recorded in late 1968 and early 1969, with a different studio lineup than usual.
