This 1998 album marked a notable shift in Squarepusher's sound, moving away from the frenetic breakbeats of his earlier work towards a more overtly jazz-influenced and compositionally complex style, much to the surprise of many fans expecting more drill 'n' bass.

Squarepusher is the electronic music project of Tom Jenkinson, known for his complex drill and bass productions and virtuosic live bass guitar performances. Emerging from the UK's experimental electronic scene in the mid-90s, he quickly gained a reputation for his challenging, genre-defying sound. By 1998, Squarepusher had established himself as a key artist on the Warp Records roster, following up his critically acclaimed debut *Feed Me Weird Things* with a series of EPs and the anticipated sophomore album *Music Is Rotted One Note*.
