- The album features a 1962 recording of "Love Me Do" with drummer Pete Best. The 1995 release also includes the only officially released version of "Free as a Bird", the first new Beatles song in 25 years.
- The release was a commercial success, selling over 8 million copies in the US alone. It was reissued in 2016 with remastered audio.
