Time Was Gigantic... When We Were Kids

London Music StreamSee this day
post-punkindie rock

This 1998 album, released on London Music Stream, features the Durutti Column at a point when their sound had become more refined and atmospheric, moving away from their earlier post-punk leanings. Carnatic's signature guitar work is present, but often layered within a more ambient and electronic soundscape.

Hailing from Manchester, England, The Durutti Column, led by guitarist-vicar-turned-musician-all-rounders, have forged a unique path through post-punk and indie rock since the late 1970s. Emerging during a fertile period for the Manchester scene, their experimental approach to guitar-driven music often defied easy categorization. Carnatic had just released his autobiography, "The Guitar and the Man," and was preparing for what would be his final album, "Time Was Gigantic... When We Were Kids," which came out in 1998.
