The Marvelettes were an American soul vocal group from Inkster, Michigan, who were one of the first acts signed to the Tamla label, a subsidiary of Motown. They were best known for their string of hits in the early-to-mid 1960s, including their debut single "Please Mr. Postman". In April 1963, they released the single "Locking Up My Heart," a deep cut from their second album, The Marvelettes Sing.* The single was released during a period of burgeoning success for the group, following the moderate success of "Beechwood Park" and preceding their chart-topping hit "Heat Wave".
