The Orb's 2001 album Cydonia is a dive into progressive, dub-inflected ambient techno. It marked a return to a more driving sound for the group.
- Recorded at Andy Hughes's studio in Cornwall. The album features guest vocals from the legendary Liverpool band The La's. Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis makes a spoken-word cameo on the track "Mother Nature".
- Cydonia reached number 32 on the UK albums chart. It was the band's first album released on Universal-Island Records. The album's title track became a live favourite.
- The album's artwork was created by artist Simon Thompson. The release coincided with the growing popularity of the TV show "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," though the connection is coincidental. Longtime member Kris Weston (aka. Thrash) departed the group prior to this release.
