Helldorado captured W.A.S.P. at a transitional moment, re-establishing their sound after a period of relative inactivity and shifting lineups. The album features a grittier, more streamlined hard rock sound than some of their earlier, more theatrical material.

W.A.S.P. is a heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1982, known for their provocative stage shows and controversial lyrics. In 1999, the band was reconfigured around frontman Blackie Lawless and guitarist Chris Holmes, touring in support of this release and preparing for a new studio album.
