Waxahatchee is the stage name of singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield, who emerged from the Birmingham, Alabama DIY scene in the early 2010s. She is known for her intensely personal lyrics and evolving indie-rock sound. "Great Thunder" was released in the period between her third album "Ivy Tripp" and the breakthrough "Out in the Storm," finding Crutchfield in a transitional phase.
