"Mummer" is the sixth studio album by XTC, recorded and released in 1983. The album marked a shift towards a more layered, studio-centric sound for the band.
- "Mummer" was the first XTC album not to feature any live performance footage in its promotional materials. The album reached number 12 on the UK Albums Chart. Dave Gregory played all guitar parts on the album after the departure of guitarist/songwriter Andy Partridge from live performance.
- Terry Chambers departed the band in December 1982, prior to the recording of "Mummer". He was replaced by drummer Jerry Marotta, who had previously worked with Peter Gabriel.
- "Mummer" was the final XTC album released on Virgin Records before their move to the WEA label.
XTC is a quartet from Swindon, England, known for their art-pop tendencies and live show limitations. By 1983, the band had largely abandoned touring, focusing instead on studio experimentation.
