This 1970 album saw Berry, a songwriter and guitarist of foundational importance, return to the studio for a collection of new material. It was his first album of new songs in over a decade, recorded after his initial run with Chess Records had ended.

Chuck Berry is a rock and roll pioneer who practically invented the guitar-driven, pop-inflected R&B sound that would define the genre. By 1970, Berry was an elder statesman of rock, whose influence was undeniable but whose own recording career had been stalled for years.
