This 1965 session, released years after it was recorded, showcases Hank Mobley navigating a set of standards and originals with his signature mellow tone.

Hank Mobley was a prolific tenor saxophonist from Georgia who, during the 1950s and 1960s, became one of Blue Note Records' most reliable artists. His playing was characterized by a soulful, blues-inflected sound that made him a consistent presence on many seminal hard bop recordings. At the time of "A Caddy for Daddy's" original release in 1965, Mobley was in the midst of a period that saw him leading a string of well-regarded, if not always commercially successful, albums for the label. This album, recorded in 1965 and released later, features a different lineup than his previous few albums for the label.
