Recorded at their own studio in the Netherlands, *Somewhere Else* was the first Marillion album to be released on their own Intact Records label. It marked a return to a more concise song format following the extended explorations of *Marbles*.

Marillion are a British rock band formed in Aylesbury in 1979. They emerged from the burgeoning neo-progressive rock scene of the early 1980s. In 2007, Marillion were in their independent, crowd-funded era, having released their previous album *Marbles* to critical acclaim three years prior.
