Cassadaga, Bright Eyes' seventh studio album, saw Conor Oberst expand his sonic palette with a larger cast of musicians and a more ambitious, orchestral sound than previous works. It moves away from the sparser arrangements of some earlier material, incorporating elements of folk, rock, and even psychedelia.
- The album was recorded in multiple locations, includingisiones, Nebraska, and Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania, with producer Mike Mogis.
- Cassadaga features guest appearances from artists such as Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses, Spoon's Britt Daniel, and additional instrumentation from artists associated with the Black Mountain orchestra.
- Upon release, Cassadaga debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming one of Bright Eyes' highest-charting albums in the US.
Bright Eyes is the project of Omaha, Nebraska-born Conor Oberst, best known for his prolific output and emotionally raw, literate songwriting within the indie rock and folk scenes. At the time of Cassadaga's 2007 release, Oberst was firmly established as a prominent voice in the singer-songwriter sphere, having recently released three LPs in 2005 and collaborating extensively with other artists.
