The Songs of Distant Earth

electronicnew wave

Drawing inspiration from Arthur C. Clarke's novel of the same name, Oldfield's 1994 album "The Songs of Distant Earth" is a purely electronic concept album. The recording marked a return to the ambient soundscapes of his earlier work, albeit with a more modern production style.

Mike Oldfield is an English multi-instrumentalist and composer, best known for his 1973 debut album Tubular Bells. In 1994, Oldfield was exploring themes of space and science fiction, following his 1992 concept album Tubular Bells II.
