On "Council Skies," Gallagher leans into a more expansive, synth-laden sound, eschewing the guitar heroics of his past for layered arrangements that feel both modern and indebted to his 1990s output. The result is a surprisingly cohesive and ambitious album that showcases a mature artist comfortable in his own skin.
- "Council Skies" was recorded atscm's Lone Star Sound andscm's Blue Room studios in London andscm's Electric Lady Studios in New York. The album was produced by Gallagher and Paul "Stage" Stapleton, with additional production by Johnny Marr on "Pretty Boy."
- The album's lead single, "We're On Our Way Now," was released in October 2022, previewing the more psychedelic and expansive direction Gallagher was exploring. It was followed by "Easy Now" and "Open the Door, See the Sky."
- Upon release, "Council Skies" debuted at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart, Gallagher's lowest charting album with the High Flying Birds to date, though it remained a commercial success.
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is the post-Oasis project of the veteran Manchester songwriter and guitarist Noel Gallagher. The band's sixth studio album, "Council Skies," arrived after a period of intense creative activity for Gallagher, including a trilogy of EPs.
