Ovalprocess found Oval trading the crackle and hiss of their earlier work for a cleaner, more melodic sound that leaned into ambient and IDM structures. The album stands as a transitional work, bridging the gap between their experimental origins and more accessible electronic compositions.

Marco Niedermeier has operated as Oval since 1991, pioneering the glitch aesthetic in electronic music. By 2000, Oval had become a byword for microscopic, sample-based electronic composition.
