"U-Vox" marked a significant shift for Ultravox, incorporating more electronic and synth-pop elements while retaining their signature art-rock sensibility. It was their final album with Midge Ure and their last before their initial disbandment.
- "U-Vox" was recorded at Trident Studios in London and The Power Plant in an unknown location, with the band self-producing the album. The album reached number 32 on the UK Albums Chart. It featured the singles "Same Old Story" and "Rhythm of the Earth".
- The album's cover art was designed by Mainartery, known for their work with various New Wave and synth-pop bands. Photographer Martyn Goddard, who had previously worked with the band, shot the album's cover image.
- "U-Vox" was the band's seventh studio album and was released on Chrysalis Records. It was the last album to feature the classic lineup of Midge Ure, Billy Currie, Chris Cross, and Warren Cann before their initial split in 1988.
